Time Management
The Time Management collection by Ergotreatment is designed for children who struggle to understand time, stay on schedule, and finish tasks within a reasonable timeframe. This curated set of OT activities, visual schedules, and learning resources helps kids move from “I ran out of time” to “I know what to do and when to do it,” making daily life smoother for the whole family.
Created for parents, teachers, and pediatric occupational therapists, this collection includes printable resources, OT worksheets, OT printables, and digital activities that support executive functioning, attention and focus, self-regulation, and behavior management across home, clinic, and school-based OT settings.
Time management is a key part of child development and executive functioning. When children have difficulty in this area, you might notice that they:
- take a very long time to start or finish simple tasks
- get “lost” during routines like getting ready, homework, or tidying up
- underestimate how long activities will take
- rush at the last minute or give up halfway through
- have trouble switching from preferred activities (like screens) to responsibilities
These challenges are closely linked to planning, organization, task initiation, and the ability to monitor how time is passing. For children with autism, ADHD, learning differences, or other special needs, time can feel abstract and confusing — which often leads to stress, conflict, and inconsistent performance.
The resources in this collection make time more visible, concrete, and predictable. Through play-based learning and structured occupational therapy activities, children can practice how to:
- use visual schedules and checklists to see what is happening “now” and “next”
- break larger tasks into smaller, timed steps
- use timers and simple visual supports to understand how long an activity will last
- build routines for homework, morning and bedtime, chores, and screen time
- combine self-regulation strategies with time-bound tasks (e.g., “work for 5 minutes, then take a break”)
Inside the Time Management collection, you’ll find:
- OT resources for therapy planning around time awareness and OT goals
- ready-to-use print and go activities, therapist worksheets, and learning resources
- home-friendly visuals and OT home exercises that support occupational therapy activities at home
- classroom tools and classroom activities that fit easily into school-based OT and everyday teaching
- materials that adapt well to teletherapy activities and digital sessions
These tools can be combined with family activity ideas, simple routines, and consistent language about time (“first–then”, “in 5 minutes”, “after this, we do…”) so that children gradually build a more intuitive sense of time and sequencing.
From a pediatric occupational therapy perspective, supporting time management is not just about avoiding lateness or rushing. It is about giving children the structure and strategies they need to plan, pace themselves, and participate more independently in daily life. When we pair clear visuals, targeted OT activities, and consistent home programs, children with autism, ADHD, and other special needs can learn to use time as a tool — rather than feeling controlled or overwhelmed by it.
Use the Time Management collection to build your own executive functioning toolkit for home, clinic, or classroom, and help children develop the planning, pacing, and organization skills they need to engage more fully in everyday routines and learning.
